NiSi Unveils Its First Macro Focusing Rail for Precise Focus Stacking

Cinema lens and filter maker NiSi continues its expansion into strange product categories. This time, the company has released its first macro focusing rail: a competitively-priced addition to the market that gives macro enthusiasts a lot of control and some nice-to-have features for precise focus stacking.

The NM180 Macro Focusing Rail isn’t the cheapest rail system you can by, but it offers a feature set and construction typically reserved for more expensive options. That includes features like:

  • CNC machined aluminum construction
  • Arca-type compatible quick release clamp with included plate
  • 3/8” and ¼” attachments on bottom
  • 160mm of usable range with
  • Collapsible thumb-screw knob with 1.25mm of travel per revolution
  • 360 degree rotating head
  • A longer quick-release plate for telephoto lens and with a groove for straps
  • Detachable feet for use on a table top

All of this is being made available for $130, putting it squarely in competition with other affordable options from companies like Sunwayfoto, and far below the more expensive rails available from companies like Really Right Stuff and Kirk.
